As I write this post, I’m figuring out the inner workings of WordPress. (Who knew web publishing and design had gotten so advanced?! Okay, we kind of knew.) Andrew had this great idea for us to digitally detox while on this trip. Ironic, since we’ve created a travel blog specifically because of this trip. In all honesty, we’re really looking forward to turning off all iPhone notifications and “going quiet” on social media during the trip. No work, no social media consumption, no email. It’s a tall order in this connected world we’ve all come to know. We will use our iPhones and an SLR for photography and to capture videos, and our iPads to post content to this blog. We’ll also stay in touch with close friends and family using an eSIM or WhatsApp. We’ll use them to search for local restaurants and events, and the mapping features. Beyond that, our goal is to mostly remain off our devices. I may also use my phone to continue listening to several audiobooks – I’m on my 24th book of the year and am trying to crush 35-40 books by year’s end (follow me on Goodreads).
We’re excited to see and feel the result of this detox on the back end. So, this travel blog is our primary way to stay connected to the world – in a different way – and for the world (at least those who are interested) to stay connected to us. So, please accept this statement that will last the duration of the trip: pardon our website dust as we figure things out, as we go!
With that, enjoy our blog and talk to you all soon.
Jeff
